The new Ortonville village clerk hails from north of the border.

Jenna Lane, born and raised in Canada and now a permanent U.S. resident, is enjoying the clerk position she accepted at the end of May, working alongside the new village manager, Mike Lee.

“We’re learning about municipal government together and I get to meet a ton of people,” said Lane. “I like working with the public, it’s what I’ve always done.”

Lane moved to Hadley Township from Canada a year ago after marrying Scott Lane, whom she met on a Christian dating website. For three years prior to the move, she was the director of cooperative education and career services at Redeemer University College in Hamilton, Ont.

Lane, who obtained a bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications from Brock University in St. Catharines, Ont. in 1998 and earned her master’s of divinity degree from Tyndale Seminary in Toronto in 2011, also had her own business as a marketing and communications consultant for 15 years and worked for the criminal court system in Ontario for several years. The latter position gives her familiarity with the workings of municipal government.

“I’ve served the public, my clients, church and community and help people reach their potential,” said Lane. “I am now a wife and stepmother and wanted to do something like this that offers a nice level of responsibility and life balance and is an opportunity to contribute to the community. This is just right for me at this stage of life.”
