On June 3, the Brandon girls varsity soccer team won the District Championship defeating North Branch 4-0 at Goodrich. It was the first time since 1994-95 the Blackhawks captured the title.

The Blackhawks finished the season 15-5-6 after a loss to Fenton 3-0 on Tuesday night in the regional semi-final game.

Coach Dennis Shannon commented on the record season.

“The Blackhawks have been led by a stout defense all year, only giving up 15 goals in their 23 games, and Friday night was no different,” he said. “Led by senior, and four-year starter, Randi Jannette and the defensive backline kept North Branch at bay all day only yielding one shot. Juniors Colleen Dwyer, Marisa Bone and Elayna St. Amour round out the defensive line that has teamed up with GK Logan Owen for 12 shutouts this year and only one game with more than a goal given up.”

“Up front it was more of the usual suspects doing the damage for the Hawks,” he added. “Senior three-year captain Hannah Lapanowski had a game to remember with two goals and an assist. Her first goal was only nine minutes into the game and set the tone for the remainder of the game. Junior Sarah Buda added to her team record for goals scored in a season, 17, off a cross from Lapanowski that she buried into the back side of the net with a quality header. Senior Karlie Hoffman finished the scoring off a free kick from Randi Jannette.”
