Board OKs new principal

Kurt Sutton, 29, a former elementary assistant principal in the Richmond School District was named principal at Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School at the school board meeting July 10. Sutton replaces longtime principal, Donald Patrick who retired in June.
‘Brandon Fletcher Intermediate is a terrific school,? said Sutton. ‘I’ll aim to continue the tradition of excellence established here by a great staff.?
Sutton hopes to start a training program so parents can help in after school reading, science or math tutoring classes for students that may need extra help.
Sutton served as assistant principal at Will Lee Elementary in the Richmond Community Schools from 2003 until June. About 700 students attend the school with a staff of more than 70. In comparison, Brandon Fletcher Intermediate has about 500 students and a staff of about 50.
In addition, Sutton was a sixth-grade social studies, math and fourth-grade self-contained classroom teacher in the Richmond School District between 2000-2003. He was Athletic Coordinator at Richmond Middle School from 2002-2003. From 1999-2000 he was also a second grade teacher at Jones Elementary School in White Cloud, Mich.
Sutton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Alma, College in April 1999 and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Saginaw Valley State University in April 2005.
Sutton and wife Andrea have four children, Madelynne, 5, Kaleb, 3, Kura, 3, and Ella,1.
