Brandon School Board OKs ‘Clean audit?, bond spending

The Brandon School Board OK’d an audit from the Flint-based auditing firm of Lewis & Knopf, CPAs, P.C. for the 2006-2007 fiscal year, at the Monday night meeting. The district earned the auditing firm’s best rating, achieving a ‘Clean? audit, indicating there were no exceptions or disclaimers.
In a second phase of the audit, the 2006, district voter-approved $73 million bond proposal spending was reviewed. The auditing firm indicated that spending for the multi-million dollar renovations and improvements is on target.
Lewis & Knopf also presented comparisons to 20 other districts statewide (peer groups) similar in size to Brandon, with a student population of 3,500 to 3,999.
Right, a summary of the comparison to other school districts. The district relies heavily on state funds for operation, compared to similar sized districts.
