Mr. Gregory Lyle Hotchkiss, son of Lyle and Ellen Darlene Hotchkiss was born on February 24, 1961 in Flint, Michigan.

7010250_o_1 He grew up in Ortonville, MI in a country home with his five siblings and extended family. At the age of 11, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ which became a guiding strength throughout his life. He graduated from Flint Christian High School in 1979 where he played many sports. On July 5, 1983, Greg joined the Marines to serve his country and provide for his family. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. In a relatively quiet moment in military history, Greg was promoted to the reserves in April 1987. In 1995, Greg was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, SuEllen. They were married in Grand Rapids, MI alongside Greg’s three children – Brian, Sarah and Emily – and SuEllen’s 14 nephews and nieces; a Kent county record that remains to this day as the most children to participate on stage in a wedding ceremony. Together, Greg and SuEllen would add three more children to the family – Austin, Taylor and Aubri. Greg was an active, inventive and entrepreneurial. He spent most of his life as a builder/contractor, but found his greatest joy participating in the lives of his family and designing playhouses and redesigning bedrooms for his children, nieces and nephews. Most recently, he created several games to help with learning; most notable is “Math Wars.” He lived what he believed, had a generous heart and loved people; which he showed through his playful and sarcastic sense of humor – he loved to tease. He always talked about the importance of church, family and made sure people knew where he stood on matters. The theme of Greg’s life mirror his favorite passage of scripture, Romans 5:1-11, which he highlighted in his high school year book speaks of peace, hope, perseverance, love and reconciliation. It wasn’t easy for him to speak about spiritual matters, but he shared the love of Christ through service to his family, mission projects in Mexico and Romania and his construction of the “little town of Bethlehem” – a life sized pop-city designed to bring the nativity story to children. He loved his family, wife, 6 children, 8 grandchildren, and all things Michigan. Greg departed this life on October 3, 2016. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family and friends who loved him. We know he is present with our Heavenly Father – praising God for his many blessings. Greg is survived by his wife: SuEllen, children: Brian (Robyn), Sarah (Arnie), Emily, Austin, Taylor and Aubri; parents: Lyle and Ellen; grandchildren: Abigail, Isaiah, Kenzie, Elijah, Zachariah, Katie, Rebekah and Christopher, siblings: Rick (Kalleen), Julie (Deano Mooney), Sue (Clair Luttrell), Mark (Laura) and Chris (Debbie); and a loving extended family.
