Harrison Hoe, Inc. to expand business

Brandon Twp.- Harrison Hoe keeps on digging into the area market.
‘The community needs to know that we’re expanding to a larger facility,? said Brian Harrison, owner of Harrison Hoe, Inc. 1358 Ortonville Road. ‘Even with the struggles in the economy right now, we’re having a fantastic year.?
Founded in 1980 with a backhoe, five-yard dump truck and trailer, Harrison moved his operations to Ortonville in 1998. Since then the company has grown and incorporates a variety of excavation services, from private trout ponds, to septic systems, to special designs for aquatic features, Harrison Hoe, Incorporated will break ground this spring for a new, larger 6,000 square foot facility just to the north of the current site.
Earlier this year, Harrison sold his existing 4,000 square foot building to Mike La Lone Well Drilling, who relocated from Davisburg to Ortonville. La Lone will operate his business from the facility.
‘We’ve gone out of our way to make sure our customers are happy,? he said. ‘That’s made the difference in our business.?
The recent building move comes after Harrison expanded his business about five years ago to include septic pumping. The company had installed septic systems for many years, so it was natural to include cleaning and pumping also, said Harrison.
Some of the septic issues we have in the community are high water tables and a lack of space especially around the lake, Harrison said. When area septic systems fail it requires an engineered system, he said.
‘The county requires 100 percent compliance with the sanitary code,? said Harrison.
