Lapp, Amman out as supervisors

One election’two long time supervisors out.
When the last vote was counted late Tuesday night in the Brandon Township primary election, two-term Republican incumbent supervisor Ron Lapp was ousted.
Challenger Kathy Thurman received 1,179 votes while Lapp garnered 863 votes. Thurman will challenge Democrat Cynthia Strehle, who snagged 369 votes, in the November general election.
Thurman, 51, has served as a subsitute teacher in the Brandon School District, mangaged her own farm and equestrian business.
The township treasurer and clerks races included Republican candidates for four-year terms.
Incumbent Clerk Jeannie McCreery took 1,127 votes defeating challenger Linda Cotton with 869 votes. McCreery, 61, had served eight years as clerk. In a close race for treasurer, challenger Tyrone Beltrano received 1,037 votes edging out four-term incumbent Linda Owen, who got 1,012 votes.
In the Republican race for four trustee seats, incumbents Thomas Stowell received 883 votes, Robert DeWitt 842 votes, and Charlene Carlson got 831 votes. Newcomer David King received 726 votes, edging out incumbent Sandra Willett with 641 votes.
Also receiving votes for trustee were Robert Flath with 635 votes, Jason Gault 596 votes, Mark Gilbert 411 votes (deceased, name was still on ballot), Vivian Roy 435 votes and Graydon Like, Sr. 216 votes.
In the race for Atlas Township Supervisor, incumbent Paul Amman lost his bid for a third term to newcomer Shirley Kautman-Jones. A total of 25 votes seperated the two candidates. Kautman-Jones received 649 votes to Amman’s 624 votes. Kautman-Jones was a Goodrich School Board member, served on the Atlas Township Planning Commission and work on the Goodrich Volunteer Ambulance service.
Incumbent Township Treasurer Ann Marie Slagle received 665 votes, defeating newcomer Ann Hutchins with 496 votes. In the race for township clerk, incumbent Republican Teresa Onica received 931 and will face Democrat Mary Koppinger with 193 votes in the November election.
Both incumbents survived bids by newcomers for their trustee seats. First term incumbent Barry June defended his trustee seat with 766 votes, along with second-term incumbent Scott Statson snagging 639 votes. The two outpaced newcomers Susan Arnold with 531 votes and Norene Newton.
In Groveland Township all candidates were Republicans. Incumbents Supervisor Robert DePalma Clerk and Pam Mazich ran unopposed.
Following the retirement of six-term Township Treasurer Shirley Scramlin, 69, four candidates vied for the seat. Township Trustee David Ax received 260 votes, Robert Renchick earned 176 votes, Pam Que received 145 and Township Deputy Treasurer Laura Lawrence garnered 273 votes.
In the race for Groveland Township Trustee, incumbent Diane Howell received 369 votes, and Townhip Planning Commission Member Hal Coxon earned 369 votes to fill the two seats. Arlene Thompson received 273 votes.
