Brandon Twp– A man who spit on a medic will be charged with aggravated assault on a first responder.

On Aug. 16, at 5:58 p.m., Brandon deputies responded to the 900 block of Lockwood Road to assist Brandon Fire Department on a medical emergency. The complainant said her brother was found breathing, but unresponsive on his bed with several apparently self-inflicted knife wounds on his chest.

The woman said her brother had been released from a local hospital earlier in the day after being evaluated for psychological issues. She advised that she mistakenly took him to the Sixth Circuit Court the day before where upon barging through security he had to be restrained by six deputies and he may be combative with first responders.

Upon arrival, deputies found the subject breathing normally, but with very sluggish responses. He had sev

eral very small superficial lacerations on his torso with dried blood. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or other substance.

Two large kitchen knives on a night stand were moved to a safe location and Brandon Fire Department personnel were permitted to enter as he was calm. As they began to gather his vital signs and assess his condition, the man became agitated. He was assisted to the bathroom and upon exiting, paramedics began to assist him down the stairs under his own power, but as they were descending, he became combative.

He was safely taken outside, but continued to resist and spit into the face of a firefighter. He was escorted to the gurney, where medics applied four point restraints and a spit hood. He was transported to the hospital, accompanied by deputies.

The suspect’s sister said her brother has been diagnosed with hepatitis “C” antibodies, but doesn’t think he carries the virus. Both she and her husband witnessed the suspect spit into the fireman’s face. The suspect will be charged with aggravated assault on a first responder and lodged at the Oakland County Jail upon his release from the hospital.
