Memorial Day observed

For the 138th year, on May 29, Americans will honor their deceased veterans of all wars. Every year since 1868, American citizens have gathered in cemeteries and at memorials across the country to pay solemn tribute to those who faithfully served in the defense of our nation.
Memorial Day ceremonies for Brandon and Groveland townships, as well as the Village of Ortonville, will take place at 9:30 a.m. May 29. The parade will begin at the Old Town Hall on the corner of Church and Mill streets, and will end at the Ortonville Cemetery on M-15. Wreaths will be laid at the World War I and World War II memorials in the village en route to the cemetery. The main ceremonies will take place at the Ortonville Cemetery following the parade.
All veterans are invited to participate in the parade and ceremonies. Transportation will be provided for those veterans who are no longer able to complete the route on foot. Volunteers are needed to carry the service flags during the parade. The wearing of uniforms is desired, but not required.
All scout troops/packs and other civic organizations are invited to participate in the parade with marching units. All wishing to participate in the parade should be at the Old Town Hall no later than 9 a.m.
