Obama tops GMS mock election, turnout high

The votes are in and it’s Obama.
That’s the results from more 440 Goodrich Middle School students who voted in OneVote 2008’an event for young people from coast-to-coast to experience casting their vote for president. While the results nationwide were not available by press time, the tally from Goodrich Middle School was reported on Tuesday.
The total votes cast were 440 (88 percent voter turn-out) with Obama getting 248 votes (57 percent) and McCain netting 192 votes (44 percent). The most important issues for students (13-14 years old) included:
Economy: 208 (48 percent), War in Iraq, 138 (32 percent), education, 44 (10 percent), environment, 36 (9 percent), social issues, 14 (4 percent). Also, of more than 8,000 schools nationwide, Goodrich Middle School voter turnout was fourth highest.
Jefferson Senior High School in Shenandoah Junction, WV had the highest turnout in the nation with 100 percent.
