School Board OKs pay hike

By a 5-0 vote, the Brandon School Board OK’d a contract on Tuesday night with about 65 district employees including food service, bus drivers and mechanics, along with maintenance and custodial workers. The employees were represented by the Teamsters Union.
Tom Miller, Brandon School District superintendent, said a 1 percent pay increase was approved retroactive for the first semester of the 2007-08 school year and the second semester of 2008 beginning Jan.16 through the end of school year. The wage agreement is in place until June 2008. The general contract, which expires in 2009, calls for a wage opener in the second and third year.
‘We are very pleased with the deal,? said Miller. The contract is collaborative and amicable’in May we had to wait until the student count was complete and until the money issue was settled in Lansing.?
On Monday, Nov. 12, about 18 district secretaries of the Michigan Education Association also approved a similar contract.
No further details were available at press time Wednesday morning.
