A 32-year-old township man who fired multiple rounds from a handgun and assault-type rifle inside his home while intoxicated has been arraigned on misdemeanor charges.

According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office report, Brandon deputies responded to a home in the 200 block of Lancelot Lane after it was reported by concerned citizens that at about 10:18 p.m., Nov. 1, multiple shots were fired by the man inside the residence. At that time, the man did not answer the door, but deputies observed nothing amiss and could see the man sitting at a table.

The deputies returned the following morning to check on the man, and again, no response was made, but one of the deputies observed multiple bullet holes in one of the rear exterior windows and a handgun could be seen laying on the floor at the end of the hallway when looking through a front window.A baby swing could be seen as well just inside the doorway.

The front door was unlocked and entry was made by the deputies, who loudly announced their presence and called out to the suspect, who appeared at the top of the stairs and was ordered to come down. At the bottom of the stairs, he was ordered to the floor and handcuffed.

The man said his memory of the night before was not clear. He admitted consuming intoxicants on top of his prescription medications and acknowledged he should not be drinking while taking his medications, but that they were not working for him. He has been on Xanax for anxiety and depression lately after his girlfriend recently left him with their four-month-old daughter.

The deputies took possession of the .45 caliber Kimber loaded handgun in the hallway, as well as a fully loaded and charged assault rifle and an unloaded bolt-action 30-06 rifle. Also found in the home were several empty beer cans, a marijuana pipe and spent .223 rifle rounds on the kitchen counter.

One of the kitchen windows had multiple bullet holes in it that were obviously made by rounds being fired inside the home through the window. There were also spent .45 caliber shell casings on the floor.

No one else was in the home. An evidence technician was summoned for processing of the scene and photographs. The man was cleared by medics and subsequently transported to Common Ground and committed for a psychiatric evaluation.

He was charged with three misdemeanors— reckless discharge of a firearm; possession of a firearm while intoxicated; and disturbing the peace. All firearms in the home were removed pending adjudication.
