Superintendent position to be posted June 19

The search is on.
School Board trustees Chris Yuchasz and Diane Wiley and Board President Greg Allar gathered with representatives of the Southeast Michigan for Michigan Leadership Institute on Monday night to discuss the expectations and process for hiring a new superintendent.
The decision follows the retirement of District Superintendent Tom Miller, who accepted a position as a high school principal for ‘at-risk? students in Arizona. Miller’s job ends July 3; however, due to vacation days, his last day will be June 25. Lorrie McMahon, the district’s executive director of curriculum, was named interim superintendent last month.
According to MLI representatives, the district will seek a three-year contract for a Brandon superintendent and the position will be posted online, in trade perodicals, and at universities on June 19. The position will be closed on July 25. Tentative interview dates will be Aug. 6, 7 and 8 with a target date for a new superintendent to be hired on Aug. 20.
‘The peak period to search would be between January and May, that’s because most contracts expire in July and June,? said Michael Wilmot, regional president, Southeast Michigan for Michigan Leadership Institute.
‘There are fewer people looking to be superintendent right now’especially real qualified individuals. They are out there’it’s a matter of finding them.?
‘Brandon has a solid interim superintendent. That gives the district a chance to be meticulous in their search. Two key issues in the selection will be student achievement and financial management.?
