When duty calls’school principal answers, set to mobilize

Goodrich-For the past three years, Goodrich High School Principal David St. Aubin has delegated assignments to the teaching staff.
Now he’s about to get an assignment of his own.
St. Aubin will put aside his education career and join the ranks of the U.S. Army for active duty.
‘I’ve been given a ‘tasker,? basically a heads-up that I may be mobilized to the war effort,? said St. Aubin, 47. ‘I don’t know when exactly that will happen and will know more in the next month. For that matter, I could be called up in the next day or two.?
St. Aubin, a former LakeVille High School principal, replaced long-time GHS Principal Kenneth Andrezjewski, who retired in January 2005.
St. Aubin, a U.S. Army Reservist, went into the Reserve Officer’s Training Corps at Western Michigan University, and obtained a master’s degree in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University. St. Aubin, who serves as a drill sergeant, has earned the rank of lieutenant colonel over his 24 years of duty.
‘I’m not sure if I’ll be deployed to the Middle East and a hostile area,? he said. ‘But the Army has a need for what I’m trained to do. The high school will be in good hands in my absence. I will notify all the students and staff of my departure day when I know.?
St. Aubin said he anticipates about a year of active duty and will be compensated by the military, not the school district, for his work.
