Whitmore Lake Schools, Hart ink deal

Goodrich Superintendent Kim Hart is employed.
By a 7-0 vote on Monday night, the Whitmore Lake School District OK’d a three-year contract with Hart, who was placed on administrative leave by the Goodrich School Board July 26. Hart will earn $109,614 per year.
John Mayleben, president of the Whitmore Lake School Board, said the contract for Hart was discussed at the Aug.13 meeting but was tabled after school attorneys requested more time for review.
‘We’re glad she’s on the team,? said Mayleben. ‘We continue to think it was the right thing to do’Kim has already been out in the district and buildings talking with students, parents, and teachers.?
The Whitmore Lake School District contract relieves the Goodrich School District of Hart’s $119,000 contract that had been extended last spring.
A vote of 6-1 placed Hart on administrative leave. Former Mt. Morris Superintendent Larry Allen was hired on an interim basis. The decision to place Hart on leave comes on the heels of several setbacks for her, including a lukewarm review from the board and tensions with the teachers? union and their sympathizers concerning contract issues. Still, Hart’s contract was recently extended until March 22, 2008.
Hart was selected for the Whitmore Lake Superintendent position by a 6-0 vote on Aug. 1.
The Whitmore Lake School District, with a student enrollment of about 1,300 students, currently has a multi-year contract in place through 2009 with the teachers? union. The district also passed a millage in June 2003, added Mayleben, and constructed a new high school along with extensive remodeling of the middle school and elementary school.
