Changing CDBG funds

A public hearing is scheduled for July 7 at 8 p.m. during Orion Township’s Board of Trustees meeing to gather public comment on the proposed reprogramming of two sets of Community Development Block Grant funds.
Parks and recreation director Rock Blanchard would like idle CDBG funds from 2003 to be reprogrammed to help cover costs for the second accessible path being put in at Friendship Park at the corner of Clarkston and Baldwin Roads.
A recent cost estimate for the project was $66,000. The township expects to receive notice soon that $35,000 has been approved for CDBG funds for 2004 to use for the project, and would like to reprogram $31,000 in 2003 funds to make up the difference.
From the senior center, $22,575 in CDBG funds and for planning, $15,197 have set idle for a year. Allowing funds to sit idle can reduce future funding allocations. At present, the township has no eligible project for planning funds, and the senior center account will still have funds left in it, and is slated to receive $7,000 in 2004.
