The time has come once again for the Oxford/Orion Optimist Club’s Annual Duck Race. This year’s festivities are set to begin at 11 a.m. on July 24 in the children’s park on S. Broadway St. in Lake Orion. Come and enjoy a day filled with quackin? fun games for the kids; free hot dogs, chips and punch; and, of course, the all anticipated Duck Race!
The annual race will begin promptly at 1 p.m. with our favorite little swimmers being released into Paint Creek at the bridge on S. Broadway St. in Lake Orion near the park. This year’s first place prize is $999 in cash. The second place quaker will receive a new color television and the third to waddle across the finish line gets a $100 savings bond.
When asked if the club ever expects to have a triple crown swimmer, Past President Randy Davisson said he didn’t think so, but he does believe that every year there are three big winners: ‘The youth. The parents. The Community at Large.?
Ticket donations for this year’s race are $5. All participating ducks will have a number on their bottom corresponding to the number on a sold fund-raising ticket. Funds raised by the event go directly back into the Oxford/Orion communities to fund youth programs. Just a few of the programs benefiting from the Duck Race include The Christmas Wish, Youth Safety, Tri Star Basketball, Student Recognition, Boys and Girls Club, Student Appreciation, Essay Contests and College Scholarships.
