That newest Lake Orion Village Council member worked for the village for 37 years. Now he’s going to be part of the its governing body.
Retired LO Department of Public Works John Ranville was appointed at the Aug. 23 council meeting to fill the council seat recently vacated by Charlotte Patton.
Patton resigned earlier this month because she was moving out of the village.
Ranville, who lives on East Shadbolt Street with his wife Linda, has been a village resident for 32 years.
He told council members he would be an asset to the council because he knows a little bit of everything about the village.
‘And I will step up to be on committees, especially the parks,? he said.
Councilman Douglas Dendel nominated Ranville for the seat. He felt Ranville would be a good asset because ‘John’s got some history here with water, sewer and the program with the storm sewers.?
‘He’ll offer input to the village. He’ll help us even more because he’ll be on the other side of the table,? Dendel added.
Ranville has been very active in the LO Lions Club over the years, serving as president, chairman of the fireworks committee and chairman of the annual Jubilee event
Jan Saunders of Hauxwell Street was nominated by councilman Harry Stephen. She’s lived in the village for 19 years with her husband G. Brett. She said she wanted to give something back to the community.
‘In the past two years, I’ve attended almost every village council meeting as the ONTV cablecaster. I’ve often wished I could join in the discussions on many important village issues,? she added.
Ranville’s term will run until the next council election.
Council president Bill Siver encouraged Saunders to run for a council seat in the next election.
