BHS cagers win first two league contests

After a slow start in non-league action, the Brandon varsity girls basketball team went undefeated in its first wo league games.
The host Blackhawks edged Lapeer East for a 32-30 win in a Sept. 14 game, improving to 2-5 overall and 2-0 in Flint Metro League action.
Savannah Stedman scored nine points to lead the Blackhawks, while while Jessica Jennings added eight. Missy Puronek led Lapeer East (2-2, 1-1) with 12 points, while Nikki Carnick added 11.
In a low-scoring contest, the Blackhawks notched their first win of the season, winning a 24-21 overtime game against host Fenton Sept. 9.
The Blackhawks trailed Fenton 17-8 at the end of three quarters, but outscored the Tigers 11-2 in the fourth quarter to force the extra session. Stedman scored all four of her points in overtime to lead the Blackhawks to the win.
Freshman Mikki Nuccio led the Blackhawks with eight points.
