In order to sum up the outlook for Clarkston tennis this year, a time-weathered adage has to only be tweaked. The team hopes the strength of many is greater than the strenght of a true number one.
‘We have a lot of experience, but we are replacing a lot of the top of our lineup,? Clarkston Coach Chas Claus said.
Having lost last year’s ace, Amit Surapaneni to graduation, Claus hopes to see a balanced attack.
‘We have a lot of players with comprable skills. Our strength will be matching up with teams and giving certain types of players problems with different styles of play,? Claus said.
In terms of veterans, Claus is looking to returning junior Chris Graczyk, junior Zach Kerr, senior Zach McDonald and senior Erik Maesch for leaderhip this season.
Competing in the OAA Division II, Claus thinks the Wolves stiffest challenge will come from Rochester Adams.
?(Rochester Adams) returns a lot of players from a very good team last year,? Claus said. ‘Everybody else we have a good chance of beating. We hope to hang near the top of the division.?
Clarkston’s season opening match with Stoney Creek on April 4 finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News.
