New senior center takes shape

The Senior Center has progressed over the past couple weeks from a basement and floor to walls and a roof.
According to Dave Belcher, building director and general contractor, the brick was to be started last weekend and electrical was set to start last Monday. Insulation, windows and doors should be done by the end of this week. Dry wall will be going up next week.
‘I think it’s lovely, very nice and I am excited to get into it,? said Senior Center worker Jan Nadison.
Belcher said the center will have wiring for cable television, wireless internet, phones and a sound system.
‘I am ecstatic,? said Senior Center worker Jone Mendelsohn. ‘I love the brand new kitchen and everything will be new. We’ve been here (the current building) 10-11 years. It’s (the new building) going to be wonderful.?
Independence Fire Department also showed up to hose down the sand to keep dust from blowing around and make it easier to compact.
‘Our main concern is the dust for the seniors,? said Lt. Chris Morberg. ‘It serves a dual purpose. It makes it easier to compact and is helping the construction.?
The old center is set to be torn down in six weeks.
‘A big thanks to Accurate Site Works for donating their trucking and to the fire department for helping keep the dust down,? said Belcher.
Belcher would also like to thank Hunt Construction, American Dumpster, Extreme Electric, Anderson Windows, Service glass, Waun communications, Northern Comfort and Hogan Escalating.
