Cheer club advances freshmen talents

Like the Clarkston Chiefs on the football field, the Clarkston cheer club lets pre-high school girls get an early start in the sport before they get to the big program.
The club, which has groups for sixth-eighth grade, hosted 55 girls for a summer camp Aug. 13-14 at Clarkston High School.
Clarkston cheer coach Chandra Price is noticing a ‘tremendous? change in incoming ninth graders since the program’s inception.
‘It used to be when freshmen came in, they were truly freshmen,? Price said.
‘Now when they come in, they know our cheers, chants and skills and have crisper motion.?
Eight varsity cheerleaders took the reins each day to teach their future counterparts the way.
‘It’s good for them,? Price said.
‘It’s fun to see them teach it to other girls.
‘It helps them learn it better because you have to bring it down (to teach).?
