Bethany Watterworth has signed a letter of intent to play basketball and receive a full-ride four-year scholarship at Oakland University where she will study in the health and sciences fields.
Watterworth has been on the minds of college recruiters for a long time. ‘In August, 2007, I was offered the scholarship so I gave them a verbal commitment last June of 2008,? said Watterworth.
Looking forward to playing basketball at the collegiate level, Watterworth said the Oakland University team has a legitimate chance to win at the N.C.A.A. (National Collegiate Athletic Association).
‘Some of the players at Oakland University have been ranked in the top 20 nationally,? said Watterworth.
It has always been a dream Watterworth said, to play at the collegiate level.
‘It feels good. It feels like I have accomplished something at a young age,? said Watterworth.
Looking forward to the upcoming basketball season, Watterworth said this year’s team has a lot of experience.
‘We have four returning starters that have good fundamental skills. I think we will go really far in our competition this year,? said Watterworth.
Watterworth credits her mom and dad for their commitment to keeping her in a club team in the A.A.U. (Amateur Athletic Union).
‘I started playing for the Lake Orion Pistons, A.A.U. when I was in sixth grade. It’s very expensive to play on a club team, I am grateful to my parents,? said Watterworth. ‘I am proud of the record the Lake Orion Pistons has had in A.A.U. We won three straight state championships and finished third nationally in 2007.
Her coaches, Watterworth said, have made a significant impact.
‘All of my coaches have made a big difference in the quality of my game,? said Watterworth. ‘Steve Roberts, John Ciszewski and Kevin Kopec.?
The love of the game, Watterford said, is why she likes to play the game.
‘I like the competitiveness of basketball. Going out there and giving it my all and working with my teammates to make our team better is one of the biggest reasons I really like this sport,? said Watterworth.
