Orion Township Trustee Eric Wilson has announced his candidacy for the Oakland County Commission’s 3rd District seat to be filled in a special election.
The seat, which serves Orion and Oakland Townships, was held by Larry Obrecht, who retired several weeks ago.
Obrecht has endorsed Wilson’s candidacy.
“I believe Eric Wilson is the candidate best suited to carry on the work I have done on behalf of the people of District 3 over the last 11 years,” Larry Obrecht said, “and that’s why I’ve endorsed him for the position. Eric has my full support in this election, and I urge those who have campaigned for me in the past to get behind him with the same dedication and enthusiasm”.
“Larry Obrecht has served the citizens of District 3 since 1991,” Wilson said, “and during that time the District has assumed a leading position among Oakland County communities. I intend to carry on that tradition, and build on the foundation Larry has created to make certain District 3 continues to receive its fair share of county attention and resources.”
Wilson, a Republican, has been an Orion Township Trustee since 1994, and a township resident for 26 years.
“My wife Carol and I have lived most of our adult lives here in Orion Township,” Wilson said, “and we’ve raised five children here. My service as trustee has allowed me to give back a small measure of what this community has given to my family and me, and I look forward to making an even greater contribution as a county commissioner.”
Wilson is a practicing attorney with offices in Rochester. He is a graduate of Western Michigan University and the Detroit College of Law.
