Local dancers help kick off Hollywood’s Oscars

Hollywood did a double take during Oscar week, as stars like “Marilyn,” Bogie” and the “Marx Brothers” strutted down the red carpet for The Reel Awards at the Henry Fonda Theatre.
This 12th annual spectacle brought together the best celebrity impersonators from around the world. The award show also featured music, comedy and the dancers from Deborah’s Stage Door Center for the Performing Arts in Rochester Hills.
Among the dancers were Lake Orion High School students Katie Rustowicz, Leslie Aldrich and Leah Brock.
Among the lavish production numbers schedule for The Reel Awards 2003 were “Lady Marmalade.” “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” and “Livin’ La Vida Loca.”
This was an incredible experience. It was Hollywood glitz and glamour all the way from the red carpet entrance to the thrill of performing with, and for, some of Hollywood’s greatest starts,” Rustowicz said.
“It was a great feeling to know that all of the hard work and sacrifices we have made to reach the level of performance that we have achieved could be given to such a wonderful cause — giving to children less fortunate than us. We are truly grateful to have been given this opportunity.”
All of the net proceeds from ticket sales went to Variety, The Children’s Charity, Haven House, Children with AIDS Project and Thalians.
Dancers from Deborah’s Stage Door Center have performed with AD Productions for over five years including the Michigan Thanksgiving Day Parade’s Hob Nobble Gobble, Revvin’ with Ford sponsored by Ford Motor Company and many charitable events
