Cause of Cushing fire still under investigation

The cause of a fire that engulfed a home on Cushing Drive the morning of April 8 is still under investigation, according to Orion Township Fire Department Chief Jeff Key.
“From what I understand, there were different people living there…the story given by the investigators was that one person was inside when the fire broke out, but he escaped,” he said.
Key believed the home was owned by the parents of former State Senator Mat Dunaskiss, a Lake Orion resident. Key said the cause of the fire was not yet known, but remains under investigation. Due to several other ice storm-related fires also still under investigation, Key said he was not sure when the investigation on the Cushing fire would wrap up.
“This past week they were swamped,” he said.
The Lake Orion Review reported on April 9 that a neighbor to the Cushing home had reported hearing an “explosion” sound before the fire broke out.
