On Saturday, March 5, in Battle Creek, Lake Orion junior Kate Gladstone found herself in the Finals of the Division 1 Individual Girls State Bowling Championship.
The road to the Finals was a long and difficult process.To qualify for the second round of the 5 round tournament Gladstone had to beat 44 other bowlers in head-to-head competitions. Kate then advanced to the round of 16 players, then a round of 8 by beating two highly touted bowlers from Davison by 39 and 5 pins.
In the semi-finals, Kate beat an Anchor Bay bowler by 12 pins to advance to the finals.
In the Finals, before a packed house, Kate did the Lake Orion community proud when she bowled 205 and 190 for a two game total of 395. Unfortunately, her opponent bested her with scores of 215 and 242.
With the runner-up finish, Kate broke a Lake Orion High School record, being the first bowler of either gender to advance to the State Finals.
