Deputy clerk’s compensation increased

Orion Township Deputy Clerk Rosalie Ward has been attending board of trustees meetings, and assisting the staff in the clerk’s office for approximately two hours per day, while clerk Jill Bastian has been recovering from breast cancer.
On April 21, the board voted to increase compensation for the deputy clerk from the originally budgeted pay rate of $2,600 per year, to $5,200. When the original amount was set, it was understood that the deputy clerk might spend up to two hours per week acting on the township’s behalf.
The money for compensation is to come from the clerk’s fund, if possible without reducing the clerk’s salary, or from a budget adjustment to the general fund. The board voted that this would not set a precedent.
