Clarkston Elementary School celebrated its fourth annual Adopt-an-Animal program by adopting the bat.
Students learned about the furry, flying mammal all week and collected donations for the Organization for Bat Conservation at Cranbrook.
Christina Funk, education specialist for the bat organization based at Cranbrook Institute of Science, stopped by last Friday with several bats for students to see. She explained bats’ role in the health of local and global ecosystems, as well as unique features of bats around the world, such as echolocation, flight, and feeding habits.
Students also showed their support by dressing in black, dressing ‘batty,? or wearing their favorite Batman shirt.
