Brandon Twp.-The township board has gained a new trustee, while the Ortonville Village Council has lost one.
The township board voted 5-1 at their Nov. 2 meeting to appoint Liz Waters to the trustee seat vacated by the resignation of Ron Lapp last month.
The appointment meant Waters had to resign effective immediately from her position as a village council member.
‘I wanted to serve the community in a larger capacity,? said Waters of her decision to apply for appointment as a township trustee. ‘I bring a level head with municipal experience. I want to help improve the fiscal responsibility of the township and improve and support our parks and recreation department. I think we’re moving in the right direction with the township and want to keep everyone working together for the community.?
Waters, the mother of four children and the owner of Trinity Photography, has been a village council trustee since 2009. She was elected to a 2-year-partial term and then re-elected to a four-year term in 2012.
Her municipal experience is a big plus for the township board, said Supervisor Kathy Thurman. That experience placed her above the other five candidates who applied.
‘I felt that Liz had the most experience with local government, being that she served on the village council,? said Thurman. ‘I think it will be an easy transition for her and she will help us to bridge our relationship more with the village council so we will have a better understanding of the issues facing the village council.?
The village council will now seek a new trustee to appoint to complete Waters? term, which ends in November 2016.
