Area family member injured in Bosnia accident

Brandon Twp.-A township resident’s family member is lucky to be alive following a bus accident near Tarcin, Bosnia, approximately 20 minutes south of Sarajevo earlier this month.
Hadley Road resident Leigh Peterson says her sister Elizabeth Meier, 46, along with her husband Andy, 53, and their children, Sam, 13, Madeline 11, and Frankie, 4, were among 34 passengers, including 28 Americans, involved in a serious bus accident on June 11.
According to a report from the U.S. Embassy, at approximately 5:30 p.m. that Monday evening, the Meiers, residents of Hartland, Wis. were en route to Medugorje, Bosnia for a religious pilgrimage, when the bus hit a jackknifed semi on a wet road. Andy was thrown from the bus, landing on some nearby rocks, said Peterson. He suffered back, head, neck and chest injuries. Andy was transported to a hospital in Sarajevo, while the other family members were uninjured.
Peterson, said the US Embassy in Bosnia assisted the Meiers in contacting family members back in the United States.
‘Andy’s son Frankie was sitting right next to him on the bus when the accident occurred and never received a scratch’neither did the rest of the family. Andy will be returning via air to Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee’the kids are going to return this week,? said Peterson.
