Constance ‘Connie’ Fischer

FISCHER, CONSTANCE ALICE, “CONNIE” of Ortonville, Michigan passed away February 7, 2023 at the age of 88. Connie was born on January 22, 1935, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Elsie (nee: Wadsworth) LaRue. She was united in marriage to Clyde Charles Fischer on August 16, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan. He preceded her in death in 2018. She is survived by her two children, Bradley Fischer and Lori (Joseph) Phelps; two grandchildren Hailey Phelps and Jacob Phelps. Her brother, Joseph W. LaRue, also preceded her death.

Connie dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge, both personally and professionally. After graduating from Detroit Cooley High School in 1952, she went on to further her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Michigan, in Education and Library Sciences. Throughout her long and expansive career, she held posts as an English teacher, Librarian, Media Specialist, and eventually retired from her Assistant Principal position at Brandon High School. A wonderful collaborator and inspiring mentor, Connie’s peers often talked about what better educators they became due to her guidance.

Connie was a voracious reader, board-gamer, quilter, and a jigsaw puzzle connoisseur. She enjoyed listening to The Beatles, and spent time perfecting the art of baking chocolate chip cookies – always making sure to “taste-test” the dough beforehand, just to be on the safe side.

She fiercely loved her friends and family, and made sure they were a priority in her life. Connie was always there to give the best advice, wrap you in a big hug, and she never thought twice about lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Those close to her can agree that the world was a much brighter place with her in it. We are all so lucky to have experienced Connie’s unbound kindness, extreme generosity, and her compassionate spirit.
