Missing man
At 10:14 p.m., Aug. 13, Brandon deputies responded to Mill Street for a report of a missing person. The caller reported his son was missing, and that he was last seen at 7 a.m. Deputies made contact with the caller, who then updated deputies saying he had received a call from his son’s caseworker and that he was currently in a nearby area. Deputies made contact with a woman at the place the man was reported as being at, and she confirmed he was and had been since the day before. The man was removed from LEIN as missing.
Assault
At 11:27 a.m., Aug. 16, Brandon deputies responded to a report of assault. Deputies spoke with the man, who said he had been in a disagreement with a man the day prior and the man punched him. He stated he had been working on the subject’s vehicle for a while and that some parts needed to be ordered. He said the subject purchased a gift card and said there was $200 on it and gave it to the man. He said he would use it to purchase parts. A few days later the subject inquired about the purchase, and the man had said he went to purchase the part and found that the gift card balance was $0. He called the subject and told him this, and the subject accused him of stealing the money. They argued for a bit, and the man asked the subject to show him a receipt showing he had actually bought the gift card. The subject agreed, and picked the man up. He said that while driving, they continued to argue, and that was when the subject punched him. He said the next time the vehicle stopped, he got out and walked to a nearby business to have a friend pick him up. Deputies interviewed the suspect, who said he believed the man stole the money and was lying about the card have a $0 balance. He also denied hitting the man because he said he can barely lift his arms due to an injury.

Deputies spoke with representatives at Ebay, where the gift card was to, and found that the card still had a $200 balance on it and the web page used to check the balance was not working properly. The subject was given the card. He was also issued a ticket for assault and battery. The men agreed to exchange the vehicle with police present to oversee the situation.
Attempted suicide
At 5:16 p.m., Aug. 15, Brandon deputies responded to a report of an attempted suicide. Upon arrival, the victim was walking down the road. He appeared to be agitated and was screaming at people while walking down the road. Deputies spoke with him, and he continued to scream that he was going to kill the caretakers trying to help him. Deputies were able to calm him down enough, and he stated that he wanted to die and begged deputies to shoot him. He was transported by Brandon Fire to the hospital and a petition was filed.
Eye-sore
At 4:19 p.m., Aug. 16, Brandon deputies responded to a follow-up on a parking complaint. The vehicle was on blocks and was a safety hazard for children playing in the area and was also an eye-sore. The caller said that the vehicle had been on the blocks for months. Deputies spoke with the owner of the vehicle, who was advised he had to have the vehicle off the blocks or it would be towed previously. Deputies had the vehicle towed and impounded.
Domestic assault
At 2:27 p.m., Aug. 17, Brandon deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, deputies met with the victim. She stated she was not injured and was alone as the suspect had left the area. She had lived at the residence with her boyfriend since February, and the two have a baby. She said the relationship had been deteriorating and her boyfriend had begun packing his things, but had not yet moved out. She said that day, the three of them were driving home and she brought up that she wants her boyfriend to move out or she would. She said he became irritated, and she began recording on her phone. He then began fighting her for it, eventually stopping in the roadway and grabbing it from her. Once they arrived home, she opened her door and he pulled his legs up and kicked her out. She said he then drove off with their baby still in the back seat. She believed he drove to his dad’s house and that he still has her cell phone. Deputies made contact with the man, and he agreed to meet deputies at the substation to give his side. When asked, he stated that the victim was kicking him and hitting him, that she broke his car window and tore up the interior of the car. He said at that point he pushed her out of the car. He advised he was not injured and showed no signs of injury. He did not bring evidence of a damaged car. CPS was contacted, and the man was placed under arrest for domestic violence.
