Dragon soccer team falls to Oxford in district play

A league title is something to savor but Lake Orion’s loss to Oxford in district soccer play last week was not part of the overall plan.
The Dragons ended the season with a 1-0 loss to the Wildcats in the district contest at Lake Orion.
It was expected to be a tight game because the schools tied in the prior two matchups this season.
The Dragons finished their season at 10-3-7, which was good enough for the OAA White Division title.
The only score of the game came with 2:29 left in the first half when an Oxford attacker pounced on a loose ball and got it past a couple of Dragon defenders.
Lake Orion Coach Matt Paukovits and Oxford Coach John Thaler noted that there were few chances for either team, which was expected.
The players knew each other very well, having played twice this season and numerous times before over the years.
It came down to who got a break and the Wildcats got theirs and capitalized on it.
‘We played well all season,? Paukovits said. ‘I’m proud of them. They worked hard all year.?
