Lake Fenton — What a way to start a season. It was the Fenton/Linden varsity girls lacrosse’s second game, and the first one for the Lake Fenton/Goodrich squad. A nice rivalry game on March 21.
And for a half the rivalry contest was pretty intense as the Fenton/Linden Heat only led Lake Fenton/Goodrich by a 2-1 halftime score. However, the Heat took over in the second half, cruising to a 7-1 Flint Metro League victory.
The Heat opened the second half with a goal by Mady Behnke just 19 seconds into the third quarter. Lake Fenton/Goodrich appeared to cut the gap to 3-2 just a couple of minutes later on a shot by Chloe Vornies, but Lake Fenton/Goodrich were called offsides on the play. That seemed to take the wind out of the home team’s sails. Fenton/Linden got goals by Grace Perry and Kallyn Sprague before the third quarter was over, raising the gap to 5-1. Deperately needing a goal early in the fourth, Lake Fenton/Goodrich saw Fenton/Linden’s Ava Vorhies score one just 42 seconds into the fourth quarter. Behnke added another about 90 seconds later, icing the 7-1 victory.
