Letters to the Editor June 13, 2020

Thank you Wojo’s
Dear Editor,
The Village of Ortonville along with the community thank Wojo’s Greenhouse, 2570 Oakwood Road, Brandon Township for their donation of amazing flowers in the street planters through the downtown area this spring.
During a stressful time in our country it’s such a pleasure to have so many colorful floral arrangements adorning the streets of the village. Bob Hauxwell, Ortonville DPW

Willow Pointe has reopened
Dear Editor,
Frank and Deb, the new owners have done a remarkable job on renovating and keeping the old charm of the business that we opened in 1972.
Grace and I (Herb) would like to thank the community to stop by to welcome and support them as you did us for 43 years. It’s great to have a retail business back in town.
Herb and Grace Geisler

Red barn sale
Dear Editor,
Our town’s historic “Red Barn” is up for sale! It’s located on Church Street just south of Mill St., in downtown Ortonville. The asking price is $60,000 – the down payment would be $12,000. What if our citizens pooled our money together and made an honest effort to buy it and give this architectural treasure a “forever home”?
This building would be an incredible asset to our local community. It could be used for everything from graduation parties, wedding receptions, family reunions and various local town events like our seasonal Farmer’s Market, SeptemberFest, Christmas in the Village, and other downtown events.
We currently have a small list of donors, who have pledged up to $1,000 to help purchase the Barn. We need a lot more financial support to make this happen, whether your donation is $10, $100, $1,000 or all amounts in between – all donations count!
If you are interested in becoming a part owner of the Red Barn, please send a personal check, cash, or money order. Make your checks payable to: Friends of AMOS. Send to P.O. Box 84, Ortonville, MI, 48462-0084. Be sure to indicate that your donation is for “Red Barn Purchase only”, so that we can properly classify it.
Friends of AMOS is a nonprofit 501C3 charitable organization that is named after Amos Orton, who was the founder of Ortonville. All contributions are tax deductible. If for any reason we are unable to go forward with the purchase of the Red Barn, your contributions will be refunded to you.
Thanks so much for your support in this very worthwhile endeavor! Let’s hope we can make this happen for our Town!
Very Sincerely, Pat George

Circus cancelled
Dear Editor,
Every two years during the month of July the Ortonville Lions Club is pleased to host The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus in the village as a fundraiser supporting a host of community needs from scholarships to eye ware to local charities. However, due to the coronavirus the Ortonville Lions and The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus management have rescheduled the June 28, 2020 circus to the 2021 summer season.
While our efforts to support the community is paramount, safety during this crisis is the top priority. Thank you for all the support over the years.
Ed Albertson, Ortonville Lions Club.
