Ovid-Elsie — On April 15, the Martian Varsity Baseball team traveled to Ovid-Elsie and swept a double header.  In game one the Martians won 13-1 and 10-5 in the nightcap.
The highlight of the day was Carson Raether hitting for the cycle.
“A cycle is very rare in high school baseball,” said Martian Coach Bob Foreback. “He started the game with a triple, singled in his second at bat, and homered to center on his third at bat.  While standing in the on deck circle Carson said to me, ‘I’m hitting a double coach.’  Sure enough a stand up double to complete the cycle.  It may be the first Goodrich player to hit for the cycle in the 29 years I have been coaching and it couldn’t have happened to a better kid.”
Hitting for the cycle, a single, double, triple and home run in one game is rare. According to Major League Baseball, from 1882-2022 hitters have only hit the cycle 339 times.
Cross Darby and Alex McKellar also had two hits each for the Martians.  Joey Helton got the win on the mound for Goodrich giving up no hits, striking out 4 and walking only 2. Cole Ilijenic and Jack Foreback came in to close out the game on the mound.
In game two Tucker Brohl snaged the win on the mound going 4.2 innings only giving up 1 earned run and striking out 2.
Alex Mckellar, Jack Foreback, Tucker Brohl and Carson Raether all had two hits for Goodrich.  McKellar, Iliganic, and Raether each had 2 rbi. Goodrich is now 8-1 overall.
