Flint — The Goodrich Varsity Boys Baseball team was unable to defend their Greater Flint Title on Memorial Day at Broome Park as the Powers Catholic team closed the door 2-0..
“Powers’ pitching was too powerful,” said Bob Foreback, Martian head coach.
Powers Catholic pitchers no hit the Martians and struck out 14 as the Chargers, ranked fifth in the state, claimed their fifth title in six years.
“We played a solid defensive game but three Power’s pitchers combined to throw a no hitter in the final game,” he said.  “It’s hard to win a game when you’re not getting hits.  Their pitching was just too good for us on Monday. “
Goodrich advanced to the finals the Greater Flint High School Baseball Tournament by beating Davison 5-4.
GHS Gavin Hart took the loss going 4.2 innings, giving up seven hits, two runs, walked one, and struck out one. Jace Simerson and Cross Darby both pitched an inning giving up no hits or runs.
