The board of education unanimously approved Renner as the school’s next principal during their April 18 meeting.

“Thank you for allowing me to come to your district,” Renner told the board. “I was looking for

a springboard in my leadership track and I found it here. It’s about the team and I’m ready to take on this nomination and do you proud.”

Renner was one of 112 applicants for the position. Current Principal Andy Phillips will be the new principal at Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School next fall, replacing Carol Bogner who is retiring.
“Things that stood out with Bill is he has a great, super positive, energetic personality,” said Superintendent Matt Outlaw. “He’s upbeat, kid-centered, a great collaborator, and strong instructional leader.”

Renner has two degrees from Eastern Michigan University, a bachelor’s in education and master’s in education leadership. He has been with Brighton Area Schools since 2001, primarily as a kindergarten teacher, but also with stints teaching first and fourth grades. For the past year, he has taught fifth grade and notes that it was a big change from kindergarten, but he welcomed the change, just as he looks forward to his new role.

“I don’t like to stay stagnant and sometimes you need to break out of the rut and get a new opportunity,” he said. “I am all about the whole child and education of the family, offering parents support and getting them involved and welcoming them in. The more they are in the building, the better chance everyone’s child will succeed. I’m excited to connect with families and the community and offer some of my experiences to them. We can all be better parents and go through this parenting thing together.”
