From 5-7 p.m., Sept. 12, Randy Wise Ford and Cranberries Cafe are teaming up to help raise funds for Goodrich High School student Joey Richvalsky and his family.

Richvalsky, 18, was in a car crash last month when the SUV he was driving struck an unoccupied excavator inside a closed section of roadway on Bristol Road just west of M-15.

The roadway was closed due to construction on a bridge. Davison Township Police reported that Richvalsky was heading east on Bristol Road when he drove past a barricade and struck the excavator.

A $10 donation will be for the silent auction and spaghetti dinner at Cranberries, 10250 Hegel Road, Goodrich. Detroit Tigers and Lions tickets will be part of the auction.

Pam Patterson, a spokesperson for the family, said as of Wednesday Joey remains in the intensive care unit at Hurley Medical Center in Flint.

“Joey is getting phenomenal care at Hurley,” said Patterson. “I spoke with his mother (Alison) and she credits his progress to the exceptional team in ICU and rehab. She really appreciates the continued support and prayers for the family over the past month.”

Joey remains in a low stimuli room for rehabilitation, including occupational, physical and speech therapy.

“He is not accepting visitors right now, but he is progressing and has said a few words,” she said. “Joey has a long road ahead of him, but improves everyday. After some very serious injuries to his head, lungs and legs he is advancing way beyond expectations. He gave his mom a thumbs up, recognized her and responded to verbal commands. It’s a very good sign.”

“He’ll have several more weeks of recovery in the hospital with additional surgeries.”

Cards and letters to Joey Richvalsky can be sent to Hurley Medical Center, 1 Hurley Plaza, Flint, Mich. 48503. Address to Joey Richvalsky, patient.
