Brandon Twp.-St. Anne Catholic Church, 825 S. Ortonville Road will be one of the Detroit archdiocesan parishes scheduled to resume public Masses by May 29, according to church officials. The local churches are just one of several gathering spots to reopen following Gov. Gretchen Whitmer imposed a stay-at-home order due to the coronavirus March 23.
The Archdiocese of Detroit is allowing churches to celebrate public Mass again beginning May 19 with certain conditions. Fr. Gerry Frawley at St. Anne responded in a letter to parishioners that the first Mass will begin with the May 30-31 weekend. Daily Mass will be celebrated beginning June 1.
Some of the guidelines include parish churches are not to exceed 25 percent of total capacity. For St. Anne that’s 140 people. In order to adhere to this the church is requiring parishioners to sign up for the Mass they will be attending. In addition, those 2 -years- olds and up will be required to wear a mask; maintain six feet social distancing; families may sit together but, have three chairs between families.
