Superintendent search narrows

Brandon Twp.-The Brandon School board narrowed a field of four superintendent candidates down to two following a day long public meeting on Saturday.
Nancy Campbell, assistant superintendent for the Berkley school district since 2000, and Tom Miller, assistant superintendent of Port Huron school district since 1998 were the finalists selected by the school board. Campbell earned her doctorate from Wayne State University, after degrees from Oakland University. Miller earned a Master’s Degree from Wayne State University.
The next step in the superintendent search process will be the deployment of site visitation teams comprised of teachers, administrators, a Parent Teacher Association member, two high school students and community members to both Miller and Campbell’s school distincts.
‘We have a contingency of 30 people going out to their school districts,? said Beth Nuccio, Brandon school board president. We’ll be speaking with those in the community that work with the superintendent candidates. Both candidates are very impressive, both interviewed very well, but we really can’t make a decision until we see them both in action.?
The site visitation team will visit the Berkley school district Feb. 10 and the Port Huron school district on Feb.17.
The search for a new superintendent was conducted by Grand Rapids area-based T.D. & Associates after current superintendent Bart Jenniches announced his exit after nine years last summer. A new superintendent should be in place by Feb. 22, says Beth Nuccio, school board president. Jenniches? last day is July 1, 2005.
A total of 37 candidates made inquiries regarding the superintendent position since the opening was posted by T.D & Associates in January. The four candidates who attended the interview were selected by the school board during the Jan. 31 meeting from a group of 22 applicants.
Nuccio said the site committee report will be presented to the board on Feb. 22 at a special school board meeting. A recommendation could be made at that time.
‘A quarter of the superintendents in Oakland County are leaving this year,? said Nuccio. ‘We want to get this nailed down.?
