Trustee completes two terms, 96 consecutive meetings

The July 9 Brandon School Board will be a first for Trustee Ken Quisenberry’the first absence in 96 consecutive meetings.
Quesinberry, 48, was first elected to the board in 1999 and decided to not seek reelection this year. During his two terms on the board, he served one year as president and seven years as finance committee chairperson.
‘I’m very happy with the progress of the school over the last few years,? said Quisenberry, who retired from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in 2003 and currently is a small business owner. ‘We’ve stayed with the small-town core values. My work with the finance committee has been very challenging. I’ve directed my efforts to control costs over the years, no small task given the current situation with the state.?
During his last term as trustee, Quisenberry was part of a team that sold the Brandon school bonds on the market in St. Louis, Mo. The $73 million in bonds were part of the recent extension approved by voters last year.
‘The vote for the bond extension was a milestone,? he said. ‘There is a tendency to spend short, but that’s not going to help a community. The stability of the district requires a long-term plan’which this board has envisioned. The board has been outstanding to work with and will work to maintain a high quality of education.?
Ken Quisenberry is married to Nikki and they have two children, Sean, 22, and Shannon, 21, both Brandon High School graduates.
