DUMAN, NATHALIE MARIE “NAT” of Ortonville. Passed away peacefully at her home on September 24, 2018. She was 92.
Born May 10, 1926 in Cheboygan, Michigan to the late James and Edith (nee: Lucier) Phillips. A joyful child of God, Nat spread love and laughter wherever she went. She was the best listener, never judging or giving advice. In over 60 years as an Ortonville resident, Nat babysat for several children, including, Jennifer Fussman and in her late 80’s she adopted Wayne Brosseau as her son. Nat loved to dance, play cards, cut down trees with her chainsaw and never saw a bonfire she didn’t like. She was known around town as the “Candy Lady”, “Fur Lady”, for her bib overalls and large earrings. But more importantly for her loving generous nature, always demanding a hug. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Duman, Linda Duman and Meg Rowland; six grandchildren, Steve, Kathy, Tory, Edith, Brett and Camille; five great grandchildren, Lillian, Bennett, Sophie, Maddie and Zac; one brother, Larry (Diana) Phillips; also survived by many nieces and nephews who adored “Aunt Nat”; she was preceded death by her loving husband, William Duman; one daughter, Mary Juno; two sisters, Shirley Goode and Angeline Hoag; one brother, Jim Phillips and a special son-in-law, Rodger Rowland. Nat was a member of the Edna Burton Senior Center and a former member of St. Anne Choir. Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at St. Anne Catholic Church 825 S. Ortonville Road, Ortonville. Fr. Gerry Frawley, Celebrant. Inurnment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Please smile when you think of this special woman and don’t be stingy with your hugs and love.
