The Brandon School District has a new police liaison officer.
Deputy Mike Taylor, an officer with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Brandon substation for the past two years, has taken over the position from Detective Rich Hubble, who is now full time in the detective bureau. The change comes after Brandon Township OK’d a new contract in December, which moved the detective sergeant position to a patrol sergeant, and adding another deputy position in the office.The contract also increases the number of officers from 12 to 13, which cover more than 7,000 calls per year in the township.

“I like working with kids,” said Taylor. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with the kids after a career of dealing with the adults.”
Taylor has been an officer for more than three decades, and worked as the Waterford Township Sgt. for 27 years. He is also a 1985 Brandon graduate and lives locally.
“Working with them (the kids) while they’re young and maybe give back and get them on the right path early,” Taylor said when asked what he was looking forward to. “The kids up here are great, they’re receptive and friendly. It’s a good school district.”
Taylor, like Hubble was, will only be part time at the school per his contract. The position, and funding, is shared 50-50 with Brandon Township, so Taylor will also be part time in the detective bureau.
Taylor started in his new position on Jan. 5. He was previously on the afternoon patrol shift.
