Brandon Firefighter injured in crash

Brandon Twp.-Ortonville resident Steven Kitchen, a 38-year old on-call Brandon Firefighter, was seriously injured in a collision on M-15 near the entrance to Brandon High School, at 8:40 p.m.Wednesday night.
Oakland County Sheriff accident investigator Deputy Gary Richert said Kitchen, who was driving a 2002 Saturn, was exiting the Taco Bell Restaurant and turned left into the path of an oncoming southbound pick up truck.
The passengers in the truck, a 33-year old Waterford man and his 6-year-old son were wearing seat belts and suffered only minor bruises, refusing treatment or transport.
Kitchen, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was taken to Genesys Medical Center and is listed in stable condition with multiple injuries.
Reports say Kitchen was cited for failing to yield. Deputy Richert said drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the accident. No further details were available at press time.
