Compassion, integrity: Comfort Care Senior Home

Atlas Twp.- In 2009 Michele Burnett was faced with a challenge.
Burnett’s father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and it was becoming difficult to take care of him in the family home. About the same time, her longtime career with General Motors was reeling from a significant downturn in the economy.
‘I was on the road a lot with my job for many years,? she said. ‘I was in the automobile accessories business and when GM offered a buy-out, I took it.?
So Burnett and her husband, a professional builder, modified a section of their township home creating a senior care facility for the aged. The unique natural landscape provided the ideal peaceful setting to ‘Let our home be your home,? adds Burnett.
Now about four years later, Burnett is director of operations at Comfort Care Senior Home, 12399 Ray Road, Ortonville, which provides 24-hour care and exemplifies compassion and integrity.
‘A week before my last paycheck in 2009 from General Motors I accepted my first client’Dorothy,? she said. ‘About a month later I had my dad here at Comfort Care Senior Home’the reason for opening. Having been down this journey personally with a family member? you just have to do it right.?
‘We adapt to their needs with kindness and care in a home environment. Our staff makes us the best’it’s overall care from top to bottom. Safety is the number one concern’that’s why they come here. Often our residents were very independent and now need that extra care’whether food preparation or help with medications.?
‘Falling or accidents around the home are a big concern for families of our residents,? she said. ‘Here at Comfort Care it’s a smaller more personal environment that attends the physical needs with 24-hour care and emergency monitoring.?
The spacious 3,000 square foot single level modern home in a rural setting of the township features single or double bedrooms built specifically for senior care. The facility offers prepared meals for specific dietary needs and personal care, she added
‘We offer plenty of amenities and are licensed and insured,? she said. ‘Best of all, we take care of your loved one as if they were family. We are licensed by the State of Michigan for up to six residents maximum.?
