Deputies investigate report of assault at business

A local business was the scene of an alleged assault last week, but the suspect denies that the assault took place.
Deputies responded to Discount Tile and Marble at Andersonville and White Lake roads on April 29. The business owner said a 56-year-old Clarkston man (a builder against whom the business owner is in litigation) came into the store and an argument ensued.
The suspect allegedly went toward the victim, grabbed him by the neck and pushed him over a free-standing display. The victim reportedly forced the suspect outside, where the fight continued for a short time until the suspect left with a woman who was waiting in a vehicle.
Deputies documented the victim’s injuries, and noted property damage estimated by the victim to be at about $300.
The suspect later agreed to come into the substation with his wife. In his statement, the suspect admitted being at the business, but did not mention the fight.
The case has been turned over to the county prosecutor’s office for review.
