Martians, More Martians strong season earns trip to World Championship

Goodrich — The Martians and More Martians are Houston bound.
On Monday night the Goodrich School Board OK’d the out of state travel of the robotics team for the FIRST World Championship in Houston April 19-24. The event is at the 1.2 million square-feet George R. Brown Convention Center.
Down the hallway from the school board meeting, students and other mentors assembly two-five-feet square plywood shipping crates attached to pallets to secure the pair of Martian Robots that will seek a world title.
“Hopefully they will arrive in Houston undamaged,” said Pat Major, team mentor. “As in so many areas of FIRST robotics, corporate sponsorship pays many of the cost, in this case FedEx pays to ship all robots from across the country to Houston.”
Students and mentors leave left the week prior for Houston with their sites set high with anticipation for what is ahead, in the past opening ceremonies have had speakers including presidents Bush and Obama, astronauts, and Morgan Freedman. Closing ceremonies have included concerts by the Blackeyed Peas.
