Preacom Construction Co. began work on the $1.2 million station in December 2003. Construction problems have delayed the opening more than a month.
‘We’re looking forward to getting it out there,? said Brandon Fire Chief Bob McArthur. ‘We hope to improve response time.?
McArthur noted that a few firefighters live in that area. The department is currently training paid on-call firefighters.
It will take at least two years to bring the paid on-call staff up to a level to ensure the response time McArthur wants. Response time also fluctuates based on their availability, but, McArthur said, response times will still see an immediate improvement.
